Scientists, students and enthusiasts work together developing field tactics and studying the terrain. All outdoor exploration is done wearing simulated spacesuits and carrying air supply packs and crews live together in a small communication base with limited amounts of electricity, food, oxygen and water. Mars in the desert

Reuters photographer Jim Urquhart traveled into the Utah desert to document the Mars Desert Research Station (MDRS) where a crew of scientists work, study and live together in conditions designed to simulate being on Mars. The MDRS aims to investigate the feasibility of a human exploration to the Red planet and uses the Utah desert’s Mars-like terrain to test working conditions and study geology.

    Warsaw, Nov 19 (IANS) Ukrainian official Svyatoslav Sheremeta was banned from entering the country, the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed. Sheremeta, who is in-charge of Ukraine's Interdepartmental Commemorations Commission, tried to cross the border in Medyka in southeast Poland on Saturday noon with a German visa, Xinhua news agency reported. Polish News Agency (PAP) reported that the decision to bar Sheremeta was the result of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance having in April issued a ban on the search and exhumation of remains of Polish war victims on Ukrainian territory.

    Manipur populace resolves to safeguard territorial integrity

    Imphal (Manipur) [India], November 19 (ANI): In an open discussion held on Saturday about the Framework Agreement signed between the Government of India and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Isak-Muivah) (NSCN-IM), the citizens of Manipur reiterated its stand on safeguarding the territorial integrity of the state, and adopted four resolutions towards the same. Resolutions declared at the one-day open dialogue on the topic, 'Possible outcomes of the Framework Agreement in the context of Manipur,' stated that the Framework Agreement should in no way disturb the territorial boundary of the state as well as the unity of the people.

    Cape Town, Nov 19 (IANS) Amid growing calls to nationalise the central bank, President Jacob Zuma has pledged to protect the independence of the South African Reserve Bank (SARB). South Africa will continue to support institutions that strengthen its democracy and its economy as part of creating the right environment for economic growth and development, Zuma said in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal Province, on Saturday as he opened a "One Stop Shop" designed to improve the ease of doing business and lowering its cost. "In this regard, we value the work that is done by the South African Reserve Bank and we will continue to protect its independence," Xinhua news agency quoted Zuma as saying.

    Seven missed calls detected from missing Argentine submarine

    Buenos Aires, Nov 19 (IANS) The Argentinian Navy has detected seven satellite calls made to different bases from a missing submarine which disappeared on November 15 in the South Atlantic with 44 crew members on board, officials said. According to a statement released on Saturday by the Argentine Ministry of Defence, the calls did not link up with the Navy bases, but could indicate that the crew on board the ARA San Juan was trying to re-establish contact, reports Efe news. "With the collaboration of a US company specializing in satellite communication, we are now working to determine the precise location of the transmitter of the signals, given the presumption that it could be the submarine carrying 44 crew members on board," the statement said.
