Seven Army columns have been deployed in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, and National Disaster Response Force teams have been positioned on standby, even as the severe cyclonic storm Vardah made landfall between north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh on Monday. High alert has been sounded in this region and heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in the coastal districts around this area..

Fishermen in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andhra Pradesh coasts have been advised not to venture to the sea for the next 48 hours. And in the meantime, the state governments also have announced a holiday for all educational institutions in the four districts.
