Well, if you thought Durga Puja was only widely celebrated in Kolkata and West Bengal, then you’re royally wrong. Bengal’s neighbouring state (and roshogolla rival) Odisha, also celebrates the festival with equal creativity and fervour. Here is a look at some of the lovely pandals in and around the state’s capital – Bhubaneshwar.
1. Shaheednagar Puja Mandap
Around 70ft high and 120ft wide the entry gate of the Shaheednagar Puja Mandap is a replica of the Chittorgarh Palace of Rajasthan. The idol has been decorated with silver filigree work ornaments
2. Jharpada Puja Mandap
Jharpada Puja Mandap welcomes the visitors with a replica of the Albert Hall Museum building of Jaipur.
3. Nayapalli Puja Samiti
The Nayapalli Puja Samiti has created a 120ft wide structure of Italy’s famous Altare della Patria.
4. Rasulgarh Puja Pandal
Rasulgarh Puja Pandal has created a structure depicting the Royal Albert Hall of London. The gate has been decorated with mirrors and artificial gem stones of different colours.
5. Bomikhal Puja Mandap
Bomikhal Puja Mandap is a replica of London’s High Court of Justice building. The interiors of the mandap have been decorated with a craft-work of betel-nuts.
6. Barmunda Puja Pandal
Barmunda Puja Pandal is a model of an imaginary palace. The entry gate stands out because of the adorable craftwork made from forks, spoons and small bowls.
