PHOTOS: After coronavirus and cyclone, now locusts swarm into India

Swarms of locusts have arrived into India from Pakistan and Iran and are threatening to throw the country into a food crisis, even as the struggle against the coronavirus pandemic goes on. Locusts have already made their presence felt in the northern states of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, and have been reported as far down as Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. The locust, a large, robust insect, can eat its own body weight in food — around 2 g — and fly over 150 km in a day. A swarm can devour as much as several tonnes of food in a single day.
