Pakistan cricketers Umar Akmal, Junaid Khan involved in verbal row during domestic tournament

Akmal alleges Junaid Khan of abandoning team

Two members of the Pakistan cricket team recently announced for the ICC Champions Trophy, Umar Akmal and Junaid Khan had an ugly spat on Thursday. The youngest of Akmals who is leading Punjab team in the domestic ODI tournament, i.e. Pakistan Cup, claimed that his left-arm pacer Junaid Khan was nowhere to be found prior to their game against Sindh at the Pindi Stadium, Rawalpindi.

Umar said when he came to the ground Junaid was not at the venue and he was surprised. “I was shocked to see Junaid Khan not in the ground when I asked the coach and the manager, they told me that he has refused to come to the ground today, it is very shocking for me,” he said at the toss.

However, soon after the game started, Junaid Khan released a video message on Twitter that he cannot understand why Umar Akmal stated this as he is having food poisoning so he is benched for the game with doctor’s advice.

Check out the video here:

“I am surprised by what Umar has said about me. He said that I had run away from the game. I did not run away but I skipped the game because I was not feeling well. I had food poisoning and doctor Asad knows that. He treated me and also came to me this morning and told me that I also have a fever and so I should not play the game and take rest,” Junaid said.

“The team management knows about it. Umar Akmal also is aware of it. I am really shocked that he talked like this. I don’t know on whose instructions he has said such thing about me,” added Junaid.

According to recent developments, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have taken notice of the war of words held between Akmal and his teammate Khan and they have formed a three-member inquiry committee to look into the matter.
