Pakistan Bans Donations to Hafiz Saeed’s Jamaat-ud-Dawa, LeT Amid Pressure From The US
Islamabad, Jan 2: Pakistan has barred companies, individuals and institutions from funding groups like Jamaat-ud-Dawa, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Falah-e-Insaniyat Foundation (FIF) as the organisations were banned by the United Nations Security Council. The move came amid severe criticism by the United States against Pakistan for its inaction on terrorism emanating from its soil.
The decision was taken by the financial regulatory authority, Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) in December. The SECP warned of severe penalties if the direction was violated.
Paasban-i-Ahle Hadith and Pasban-i-Kashmir are the other organisations that would stop receiving funding. Many lesser known groups have also been warned. Pakistan government has prescribed a penalty of up to Rs 10 million for non-compliance on the sanctions.
This is a big jolt to terrorist Hafiz Saeed– the leader of Jamat-ud-Dawa– as he recently talked about entering politics. After the revelation, the United States had chastised Pakistan for not doing enough to fight terrorism.
JuD and FIF have 50,000 volunteers and many paid workers. The JuD runs several Islamic seminaries, hospitals, ambulance services and a publishing house.
A secret document revealed that the Pak finance ministry directed the law enforcement agencies to submit an action plan for taking over JuD and FIF.
The US has already declared JuD and FIF as fronts of LeT. Hafiz Saeed is the most wanted terrorist as he master-minded Mumbai terror attack in which 166 people had lost their lives.
On Monday, US President Donald Trump said Pakistan was thinking of the US leaders as fools.
“The United States has foolishly given Pakistan more than 33 billion dollars in aid over the last 15 years, and they have given us nothing but lies & deceit, thinking of our leaders as fools. They give safe haven to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan, with little help. No more!,” President Trump tweeted.
The United States, which has provided Pakistan more than $33 billion in aid since 2002, said in August that it was withholding the $255 million until Pakistan did more to crackdown on terrorist groups.
Recently, Hafiz Saeed called for a jihad against the United States.
“The day Jerusalem (Bait-ul-Muqaddas) becomes the capital of Israel, a caravan of ‘Jihad’ will be launched. Pakistan’s army chief General (Qamar Javed) Bajwa, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and all leaders of the political parties need to unite. Pakistan’s atomic bomb is the asset of `Islam’, which should be used to free Jerusalem. This is my open announcement,” he said.
He added, “We should organise an Islamic conference to be attended by chiefs of the Islamic states to declare ‘Jihad’. The influence of the ISIS will weaken and the conspiracy of the United States against Islam and holy war (Jihad) will come to an end,” he added.
