Australian opener Usman Khawaja’s power-packed performance against India in the recently concluded 5-match ODI series has won the admiration of many. But his biggest admirer has turned out to be Pakistan Army Major General Asif Ghafoor.
During the recent India-Australia ODIs series, Ghafoor tweeted as many as three times congratulating Khawaja for his match-winning knocks that felled India. The 32-year-old southpaw was instrumental in securing Australia’s surprise ODI series win in India after nearly a decade. With scores of 50, 38, 104, 91 and 100, Khawaja finished the series with 383 runs to his name from 5 matches.
The congratulatory tweets from the Pakistani General came in the aftermath of the Pulwama attack and India’s subsequent air-bombing of the Balakot terror camps in Pakistan. The third match at Ranchi also witnessed a controversy when the Indian cricketers went out on the field sporting army caps as a tribute to honour the Indian Army’s efforts.
Here’s all that Major General Ghafoor had to say about Khawaja throughout the series:

Very well played yet again #UsmanKhawaja
Your 100 at excellent STRIKE rate made the difference. You gave excellent performance during last three consecutive ODI contests to CAP the series. pic.twitter.com/r4f6V5ROn9

Gafoor’s congratulatory messages to ‘Major’ Usman Khawaja drew a lot of support from the Pakistani people and memes trolling the Indian cricket team and captain Virat Kohli followed:
