Pakistan: 8 Killed, 31 Injured in Terrorist Attack Near Church in Balochistan
Islamabad, Dec 17: At least eight persons were killed and over 31 people were injured after an explosion near Bethel Memorial Methodist Church in Quetta. As per initial reports, the attack targeted the churchgoers. Reportedly, shots were also fired. Multiple casualty is suspected.
Soon after the explosion near the Church located near Imdad Chowk on Quetta’s Zarghoon Road, police and Bomb Disposal Squad, among other rescue forces reached the site. According to Dunyanews.tv, police had cordoned off the area while an encounter is underway between security forces and the attackers.
Rescue workers took away the injured to Civil Hospital Quetta.
As per reports, two attackers were killed by the security forces. One of the attacker blew himself up at the Church gate, while the other was shot dead by security officials. In total, there were four terrorists but none of them succeeded in entering the church, reports claimed. Two of the terrorists reportedly fled the scene soon after the attack.
People in large number were present at the Church because of it being a Sunday. Reportedly, an emergency has been imposed on the hospitals of the city.
Home Minister of Balochistan, Sarfaraz Bugti confirmed the militants attacked targeting the Church. As per latest report, there were at least 400 people present in the church, mostly women and children.
