Padmavati Row: Protesters in Uttar Pradesh Announce Bounty of Rs 50 Lakh on Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali
Lucknow, Nov 17: Protesters in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh announced a bounty of Rs 50 Lakh on Padmavati filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali. This comes after the members of Karni Sena threatened to chop actor Deepika Padukone’s nose off. The protesters were seen staging a demonstration with placards which read, ‘person beheading Sanjay Leela Bhansali will be given an award of Rs 50 Lakh’.
Earlier, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath wrote a letter to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting saying releasing the film would create a problem of law and order in the state.
On Friday, Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) sent back ‘Padmavati’ to the filmmakers due to ‘technical reasons’. Reports claim the film’s release is likely to be delayed, after the censor board said that it will be reviewed as per set norms. The film based on the mythical character of Padmavati has irked many Rajput groups including Karni Sena who alleged the film has hurted the feelings of the community.
The Mumbai Police beefed up the security of the actress following the outfit’s aggressive stance. “The Mumbai Police have increased actor Deepika Padukone’s security after the outfit issued the nose chopping threat,” Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Deven Bharti said.
