Padmaavat Gets Banned Again; Ranveer Singh – Deepika Padukone Hint About Marriage; Hrithik Roshan Announces Krrish 4: Bollywood Week In Review
Bollywood never fails to shock and surprise us! This week (January 8-12) was a mixed bag for good, bad and ugly. How I wish I could say that the year has started off well. But, alas! At least, let’s talk about the good things first here. So, in the week that should actually be all about new beginnings and about the up and coming, we saw some great announcements about new films, cast additions on already announced projects and release dates of a few awaited films.
Hrithik Roshan’s super hero franchise Krrish 4 was announced on the occasion of the actor’s birthday on January 10. Fans were thrilled to hear this news but there is a long wait ahead for all of us. The film will be out in theatres only on Christmas 2020. Ouch!
Horror comedy Stree, starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao went on floors this week. The two actors revealed the title of the film on the first day of the shoot, leaving us wondering what it has in store for us. Talking about horror, Anushka Sharma gave us some sleepless nights by releasing the Pari teaser and a new spooky poster. The film is a paranormal thriller and the actress plays an abuse victim who is also possessed. While it was earlier slated for a February 9, 2018 release, it has now been pushed for Holi, March 2. Interestingly, Sushant Singh Rajput and Jacqueline Fernandez’ Drive was announced for the same day. Guess, there’s more time for that. Read details here.
Talking about the new, Akshay Kumar’s Kesari found its female lead in Parineeti Chopra. I feel this is going to be ‘the film’ in the actress’ career. It pays to be Akki’s heroine. His female leads more often than none end up with meaty roles – for instance – Arilift, Rustom, Toilet Ek Prem Katha and now Padman. Another film that announced its female leads is Shahid Kapoor’s Batti Gul Meter Chalu. Yami Gautam and Shraddha Kapoor have joined the one-hero-two-heroines project.
While all these amazing projects are what we will see while we go further into this year and next, there is this one film which has been dragged from 2017 to 2018 and despite getting a clearance from the CBFC, is still facing trouble. You must have guessed it by now! The start of the week we learnt that Padmaavat (earlier Padmavati then Padmavat) will now release on January 25, 2018 along with Akshay Kumar’s Padman. The year after all had to start with a box office clash. But as long as Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor, Ranveer Singh’s film was releasing, fans were happy. Film fraternity as well as the cine buffs were in a happy zone.
Interestingly, by the end of the week, the film lies banned in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh with the respective Chief Ministers announcing that they will not let the film screen in their states. There was also a protest held outside the CBFC office in Mumbai, Maharashtra on Friday morning where the Karni Sena made clear that they will not let the film screen peacefully. They also declared that they would reach out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make sure the film doesn’t reach the theatres.
While their film continues in the thick of controversies lead stars Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone, the Alauddin Khilji and Rani Padmini in the film, though not romantically paired opposite each other on screen, have been dropping hints about their impending wedding. From holidaying together, to spending time with each other’s families to buying property in Goa – the couple seems to be on the way to get everything in place before they make it official. We can’t wait. The week in Bollywood has been a roller coaster ride with good news coming our way, followed by controversies. Let’s hope the coming up week is better and we see some of these tensions around Padmaavat ease out.
