Ahmedabad, Mar 19 (PTI) Gujarat added 1,415 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking the tally to 2,83,864, the state Health Department said on Friday evening.
A day after asking schools in eight major cities to continue only with online education, the state government on Friday ordered closure of all the tuition classes in these cities till April 10.
During the day, four COVID-19 patients, one each from Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Surat and Surendranagar, died at different hospitals, taking the death toll to 4,437.
With 948 patients recovered during the past 24 hours, the tally of recovered cases went to 2,73,280 cases.
Gujarat's rate of recovery now stands at 96.27 per cent.
The state has 6,147 active cases, of which 67 patients are on ventilator.
Surat district registered 450 new cases, the highest in Gujarat, during the last 24 hours. It was followed by 344 cases in Ahmedabad, 146 in Vadodara and 132 in Rajkot.
As many as 26.41 lakh persons in the state have been given the first dose of coronavirus vaccines while 5.84 lakh have been administered second dose to date.
Over 2.21 lakh people over 60 years of age and those who are above 45 years and suffering from serious ailments were administered the vaccine on Thursday.
Ten new cases were reported in the adjoining union territory of Dadra Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu in the last 24 hours, while two patients also recovered.
Of the total 3,435 persons found positive for coronavirus in the territory since the outbreak, two have died, 3,395 have recovered while 38 cases are active, said a release by the UT administration.
