Assam government is said to shut down all government-run Madrsas in the state because it can not allow religious education with public money. Assam Minister Himanta announced that the notification for the same will be issued in the month of November.
the clerics in the state have opposed the government's move and have claimed that the government-run madrasas do not really teach the religious text and are in fact schools for education. Along with Madrasas, Sanskrit tols will also be shut down and made into regular schools. The move has faced severe criticism in the state of Assam and has also been termed as unconstitutional.
