Oman-Dubai Accident: 12 Indians Among 17 Killed in Bus Accident in Al Rashidiya

Dubai, June 7: A total of 12 Indians were among the 17 people killed in a deadly bus accident in Dubai on Friday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar confirmed. The mishap took place when a bus from Oman crashed into a road sign in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The Indian Consulate in Dubai expressed grief over the incident and said they are in touch with the family members and relatives of the deceased.

Earlier in the day, the Indian Consulate in Dubai tweeted names of eight out of the 12 Indians who lost their lives. The deceased have been identified as  Rajagopalan, Feroz Khan Pathan, Reshma Feroz Khan Pathan, Deepak Kumar, Jamaludeen Arakkaveettil, Kiran Johnny, Vasudev, Tilakram Jawahar Thakur. Dubai-Abu Dhabi Road Accident Video: 44 Vehicles Crash in Freak Accident.

On Monday, the bus carrying 31 passengers, crashed into a height barrier that slashed the rear window, cut into the left side of the bus and killed 17 passengers sitting on that side. According to reports, the driver of the bus, bearing an Omani number plate, wrongly entered a road not designated for buses towards Al Rashidiya metro station.

The Indian Consulate expressed condolences to the families of those who passed away in this tragic accident. "Sorry to inform that as per local authorities&relatives it is so far confirmed that 8 Indians have passed away in Dubai bus accident. Consulate is in touch with relatives of some of the deceased & awaits further details for others to inform their families", the Indian Consulate in Dubai tweeted.

Earlier in the day, the Indian Consulate Dubai had informed that they were informed by the local authorities in Dubai that 6 Indians are confirmed dead in bus accident. "However, this number may go up as 8 bodies are still not identified.4 Indians were discharged after first aid and three are receiving treatment in Rashid hospital", it had said.
