(Eds: Adding fresh inputs) Bhubaneswar, Oct 10 (PTI) Odisha's COVID-19 toll crossed the 1,000-mark on Saturday with 15 more deaths, while 2,854 new cases were reported, a Health Department official said.
The toll rose to 1,006 with the latest fatalities which included five from Khurda district and two from Cuttack.
One patient each died in Balasore, Bolangir, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Mayurbhanj and Sundargarh, the official said.
Ganjam district alone accounted for 222 of 1,006 fatalities reported in the state so far, followed by Khurda (168) and Cuttack (84).
Fifty-three COVID-19 patients died due to comorbidities, according to the department.
Of the new cases, 1,659 were reported from different quarantine centres while 1,195 people tested positive during contact tracing, he said.
Khurda district, of which Bhubaneswar is a part, reported the highest number of new cases at 393, followed by Cuttack at 244 and Sundargarh at 143.
The state has so far reported 2,49,693 cases of COVID-19.
Meanwhile, 3,885 more people were cured of the disease during the day, taking the total number of recoveries to 2,24,273, which is 89.81 per cent of the state's caseload.
There are 24,361 active cases in the state at present, which accounted for 9.75 per cent of the caseload.
