Bhubaneswar, Oct 21: The regional Meteorological Department on Saturday predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in seven districts of Odisha including Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jaipur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Angul due to a depression, which has crippled normal life in the state.

Following the prediction, fishermen have been advised to venture into sea during next 24 hours. Talking to news agency PTI, SC Sahu, Director of the Meteorological Centre said  that the depression moved northward and lay centred about 25 km west of Chandbali on Saturday.

“The system would gradually weaken into a well marked low pressure area during the next 24 hours.Under its impact, rain and thundershowers are likely to occur at most places in Odisha in the next 24 hours”, he said.

Paradip and Gopalpur ports have been advised by the IMD office to hoist cautionary signal number three. Strong surface wind from easterly direction with a speed of 45-55 kilomet per hour and gusting up to 65 kilometer per hour is likely to blow along and off the Odisha coast.

Earlier on Friday (October 19), heavy rains lashed many parts of Odisha, dampening the Diwali spirit. Last-minute Diwali shoppers also had a difficult time amidst heavy showers in several areas of the state.
