Bhubaneswar, Apr 21 (PTI) Odisha recorded 4,851 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, the highest one-day count so far, a health department official said.
Since April 1, there has been an over ten-fold jump in the number of daily coronavirus cases in the eastern state, he said.
On April 1, 461 COVID-19 cases had been registered in the coastal state.
The coronavirus caseload in the state is now 3,82,315 while the death toll has risen to 1,958 with five fresh fatalities.
Of the new cases detected in all the 30 districts of the state, 2,814 were reported from quarantine centres and the rest during contact tracing.
The coastal state on Tuesday had registered 4,761 new cases.
Khurda district recorded the maximum number of fresh cases at 703, followed by Sundergarh (516) and Nuapada (486).
Ten other districts reported more than 100 new cases.
They are Bargarh (318), Cuttack (304), Puri (223), Jharsuguda (290), Bolangir (227), Nabarangpur (194), Sambalpur (171), Keonjhar (166), Ganjam (151) and Angul (111).
'Regret to inform the demise of five numbers of Covid positive patients while under treatment in hospitals,' the Health and Family Welfare department tweeted.
The five fatalities were reported from Nuapada (2), and one each from Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, and Sundergarh districts.
With this, the states coronavirus death toll mounted to 1,958, while 53 other COVID-19 patients have died due to comorbidities so far, he said.
The number of active COVID-19 cases in the state is 30,927, and 3,49,377 patients have recovered so far.
The state has tested over 97.06 lakh samples for COVID-19, including 38,548 on Tuesday, while Odishas positivity rate stands at 3.94 per cent. PTI AAM SBN MM MM
