(Eds: Adding more inputs) Bhubaneswar, Sep 19 (PTI) Odisha's COVID-19 tally rose to 1,75,550 on Saturday as 4,209 more people tested positive for the infection, while nine fresh fatalities pushed the state's coronavirus death toll to 691, a health department official said.
At least 4,090 people were cured of the disease during the day, taking the number of recoveries to 1,41,657, which is 80.69 per cent of the state's caseload, he said.
Of the new cases, 2,441 were reported from quarantine centres, while 1,768 infections were detected during contact tracing, the official said.
Khurda district, under which Bhubaneswar falls, reported the highest number of new cases at 663, followed by Cuttack (491) and Puri (326).
The state had reported its highest single-day spike of 4,270 cases on September 16, he said.
Two fresh fatalities were reported in Bargarh district, and one each in Bhadrak, Bolangir, Cuttack, Gajapati, Puri, Rayagada and Sambalpur districts, the official said.
The fatality rate is at 0.39 per cent, he said.
Fifty-three COVID-19 patients have died due to other ailments so far in the state, he said.
Odisha now has 33,149 active coronavirus cases, accounting for 18.88 per cent of the caseload, the official said.
The state has so far tested over 27.15 lakh samples for COVID-19, including 48,075 on Friday, he added.
Meanwhile, a panel of experts said home isolation has become more useful for asymptomatic patients and people with mild symptoms.
Patients with comorbidities are advised to avail treatment in hospitals, the health experts said.
The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) authorities have also been focusing on patients who are under home isolation.
During the last five days, the home isolation rate was at 95.44 per cent, the official said.
Bhubaneswar's COVID tally now stands at 18,267.
According to the official, 14,052 people have recovered from the disease in the city and 68 died.
The state capital has the highest number of active cases at 4,133, he added. PTI AAM ACD BDC BDC
