(Eds: Adds fresh inputs) Bhubaneswar, Oct 15 (PTI) Odisha's COVID-19 tally mounted to 2,62,011 on Thursday as 2,470 more people tested positive for the infection, while 17 fresh fatalities pushed the state's coronavirus death toll to 1,089, a health official said.
The state also registered recovery of 2,772 patients taking the number of cured people to 2.38,535, which is 91.04 per cent of the caseload.
Of the new cases, 1,462 were reported from quarantine centres, while 1,008 people tested positive for the infection during contact tracing, he said.
Khurda district, under which state capital Bhubaneswar falls, registered the highest number of new cases at 368, followed by Cuttack (186) and Angul (170).
Four of the fresh fatalities were reported from Khurda, three each from Cuttack and Sundergarh, two from Ganjam, and one each from Balasore, Boudh, Jajpur, Kalahandi and Nayagarh, he said.
Fifty-three coronavirus patients have also succumbed to other ailments so far, the official said.
Odisha now has 22,334 active coronavirus cases.
Altogether 42,148 samples were tested for COVID-19 on Wednesday, taking the total number of such tests to over 39.21 lakh in the state, he added.
On the occasion of World Hand Washing Day, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik urged people not to lower guard at this stage and practice strict sanitation protocols and frequent hand washing to prevent COVID-19 from spreading. PTI AAM NN NN
