Odisha reports 1,219 new COVID-19 cases, 16 fresh fatalities

(Eds: Updating with fresh inputs) Bhubaneswar, Nov 9 (PTI) Odisha's COVID-19 tally rose to 3,02,793 on Monday as 1,219 more people tested positive for the infection, while 16 fresh fatalities took the coastal state's coronavirus death toll to 1,441, a health official said.

The state also registered recovery of 1,521 patients taking the total number of COVID-19 cured people to 2,89,689.

The recovery rate is 95.67 per cent now.

As many as 708 new cases were reported in quarantine centres, while 511 fresh infections were detected during contact tracing, the official said.

Sundergarh and Balasore districts reported the highest number of new cases at 107 each, followed by Cuttack at 106, he said.

Khurda district, under which Bhubaneswar falls, reported 92 new cases. It registered less than 100 fresh infections after a long time, the official said.

Of the fresh fatalities, three each were reported from Khurda and Keonjhar, two from Sambalpur and one each from Balasore, Bargarh, Boudh, Cuttack, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh and Sundergarh districts, he said.

Fifty-three coronavirus patients have died so far due to comorbidities, the official said.

Khurda district has till date reported the highest number of coronavirus fatalities at 251, followed by Ganjam (232) and Cuttack (120), he said.

Odisha now has 11,160 active cases, the official said.

The state has so far tested over 49.84 lakh samples for coronavirus, including 45,160 on Sunday, he said, adding the positivity rate now stands at 6.07 per cent.

Meanwhile, Ganjam district which was once Odisha's coronavirus hotspot, on Monday reported only 15 new positive cases.

The district administration tweeted, 'Today we have 3597 Rapid Antigen Test. All negative. First time we got a RAT totally zero. Credit goes to efforts of all Covid warriors and team Ganjam.' This apart, of the state's 30 districts, five reported new positive cases in single digit. While Gajapati and Deogarh reported nine new cases each, seven positive cases came from Rayagada district and five each from Boudh and Malkangiri districts, official sources said. PTI AAM NN NN
