Bhubaneswar, May 16 (PTI) Odisha's COVID-19 caseload on Sunday surged to 6,12,224 after 11,732 more people tested positive for the infection, while 19 fresh fatalities pushed the state's toll to 2,313, a health department official said.
Accordingly, the number of active cases rose to 1,07,403, he said.
Of the 11,732 new cases, 6,569 were recorded in various quarantine centres and the rest detected during contact tracing, the official said.
Khurda district, of which state capital Bhubaneswar is a part, reported the maximum number of new cases at 1,710, followed by Cuttack at 810 and Angul at 700.
Of the 30 districts, only Gajapati and Kandhamal registered less than 100 new cases each.
Khurda also accounted for four deaths, Angul and Rayagada three each, and Nuapada and Sundergarh two each. One patient each succumbed to the infection in the districts of Gajapati, Kendrapara, Nabarangpur, Nayagarh and Puri.
This apart, 53 COVID-19 patients in the state have died due to comorbidities At least 10,781 patients recuperated in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 5,02,455.
Odisha's positivity rate stands at 5.63 per cent.
Over 1.08 crore sample tests have been conducted in the coastal state so far, including 56,442 on Saturday.
