Bhubaneswar, Feb 24 (PTI) Odisha's COVID-19 caseload on Wednesday surged to 3,36,835 after 68 more people tested positive for the infection, a health department official said.
The COVID-19 death toll remained at 1,914 as no fresh fatality due to the disease has been reported since February 19, the official said.
Of the 68 new cases, 40 were reported from different quarantine centres in 21 of the state's 30 districts, while the remaining 28 were local contact cases.
It is for the third consecutive day that the state recorded over 60 new infections. It had reported 62 and 69 cases on Tuesday and Monday respectively.
Khurda district of which the state capital Bhubaneswar is a part, reported the highest of 9 new cases followed by Sambalpur (7) and 6 cases each were reported from Balasore, Bolangir and Sundergarh districts. All the 21 districts reported new cases in single digit, he said.
Meanwhile, Dhenkanal and Kandhamal districts have turned coronavirus free as no active cases existed in their jurisdictions.
The COVID-19 death toll is 1,914. This apart, 53 other COVID-19 patients have succumbed to comorbidities in the state, he said.
The state currently has 625 active COVID-19 cases while as many as 3,34,243 patients have recovered from the highly infectious disease.
The state has so far tested over 82.30 lakh samples for COVID-19 including 17,392 on Tuesday. Odisha's positivity rate stands at 4.1 per cent, a data released by the health and Family Welfare department said. PTI AAM RG RG
