Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik receives an anonymous letter; threat to his life?

An anonymous letter was received by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik alleging that a plot to kill him was hatched, after which the state government ordered an inquiry into the matter, official sources said on Thursday.

The letter addressed to the residence of Patnaik, written in English, stated that contract killers armed with advanced firearms could attack the chief minister at any time.

Following receipt of the letter on 5 January, Special Secretary (Home) Dr. Santosh Bala requested an inquiry into the matter from the State Director-General of Police, Director-General of Intelligence, and Police Commissioner Bhubaneswar. Bala also mentioned that it is possible to evaluate and tighten the security of the chief minister at his home, the secretariat, as well as during the journey to different places.
