NPFL Matchday 26: Plateau United, MFM target return to winning ways

Golbe blames ill-luck for Plateau United’s Federation Cup ouster

Plateau United Vs Nasarawa United

Jos has been a fruitful ground for Plateau United but their title credentials will be in for a major test against Nasarawa United on Wednesday.

The Peace Boys hold a five-point lead over El Kanemi Warriors and MFM FC at the summit. Coach Kennedy Boboye have the luxury of calling on the trusted Dele Ajiboye, Daniel Itodo, Emeka Umeh, Golbe Elisha, Hamisu Saleh, Philip Azango and Owolabi Hamzat to perform the magic.

For coach Kabiru Dogo, he is confident of grabbing a good result at the Rwang Pam Stadium, following a deserved 1-0 win over Enyimba the last time out. His faith is hinged on the Jos connection he's got in the team like Anyu Ishaya, Emmanuel Makama and Abdulbasit Shittu.

Enugu Rangers Vs FC IfeanyiUbah

Looking for goals? Look no further than the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium where Enugu Rangers - an attacking minded side - face FC IfeanyiUbah, whose have produced 29 goals in total this season.

The Oriental Derby should certainly live up to it billing as the two sides have promised a positive brand of football ahead Wednesday's meeting.

This week's match-up is especially enticing since it pits veteran defender Okey Odita against the dreaded Godwin Obaje.

Enyimba FC Vs El Kanemi Warriors

The form of Mfon Udoh, who has struck 10 goals this term, is cause for optimism as Enyimba welcome El Kanemi Warriors to the UJ Esuene Stadium.

El Kanemi are five places and three points better than the People's Elephant after they thumped Remo Stars 2-0 in Maiduguri.

In the reverse fixture, Hussain Muhammad scored the only goal of the encounter in the 78th minute when he cashed in on a defensive error as the Desert Warriors won 1-0 at the El Kanemi Sports Complex on February 5.

MFM FC Vs Sunshine Stars

It has been a superb season for MFM, but a win over Sunshine Stars rekindles their hopes of winning the Nigeria Professional Football League title

With 13 matches to go, the Owena Whales are placed 17th, 10 points behind third-placed MFM who have 40 points.

Continent football will not be coming to Akure next season and Duke Udi, newly appointed as the handler of side, is saddled with the sole responsibility of avoiding the drop.

The reverse was a slim 1-0 victory for the Olukoya Boys, with Stephen Odey finding the back of the net at the Akure Township Stadium.

Wikki Tourists Vs Lobi Stars

Wikki Tourists were fortunate to nick a 0-0 draw away to FC IfeanyiUbah. They have 31 points from their 25 matches so far and are 16th in the table, one place ahead of the danger zone.

Lobi Stars earned a vital win in their last league fixture as they edged past Rivers United 1-0 thanks to Imenger Nanen's late strike in Makurdi.

The Pride of Benue are the better of the two sides considering their head-to-head record as they have seven wins in 17 outings to the Bauchi Elephants' six. Four of the games ended in stalemates.

Katsina United Vs Niger Tornadoes

The spotlight falls on Niger Tornadoes at the Muhammodou Dikko Stadium when they visit Katsina United.

Both sides settled for a 1-1 draw earlier in the year at the Confluence Stadium. The return match will also be a tight affair.

The Chanji Boys occupy 14th spot, four places below the Ikon Allah Boys on the ladder.

Gombe United Vs Abia Warriors

Gombe United will hope to shake off a league hangover when they play Abia Warriors at the Pantami Stadium.

The Savannah Scorpions bowed 2-1 to Sunshine Stars in Ijebu Ode. Next up is a clash with an inconsistent but dangerous Abia Warriors.

The Ucendu Babes' league form has also been patchy, but they won 2-1 at home to Plateau United on June 18.

While they are unlikely to be dragged into the relegation battle, Abdullahi Biffo will be eager to increase the six-point gap between 11th-placed Abia and Gombe in 19th on 29 points.

Remo Stars Vs Akwa United

There may be 14 points separating top-three challengers Akwa United and relegation battlers Remo Stars in the standings, but the Sky Blue Stars are capable of upsetting the Promise Keepers.

Mathematically, Akwa United can win the topflight title this season, but face a tough task of overhauling Plateau United, who have a six-point advantage over them.

The Sky Blue Stars currently reside at the bottom after picking up 25 points from a possible 75, with just seven wins and five draws. They have suffered 13 losses so far in the campaign, and have only tasted victory on two occasions in their last five outings.

ABS FC Vs Kano Pillars

With another 13 games left to play this season, Kano Pillars have little room for error if they are to continue the battle for the title. They have been impressive in recent times and might have a say at the crucial stage of the race. So, we are in for an exciting finish to the season.

ABS are 12th in the table with 34 points from their 25 games and four points clear of the relegation zone. They have been inconsistent throughout the season and nothing has changed after the break.

The Saraki Boys are unbeaten at home in their last 12 matches, with 10 wins and two draws.

The reverse leg of the corresponding season at the Sani Abacha Stadium was a 1-0 loss for the Ilorin outfit.
