NPFL Matchday 15 Review: El-Kanemi Warriors keep pace with Akwa United at the top

The Borno Army are breathing down the neck of the Promise Keepers as they are still tied on same points after the latest round of games

El-Kanemi 1-0 Plateau United

El-Kanemi Warriors extended their winning streak at the Maiduguri stadium on Sunday as they pipped former champions, Plateau United by a lone goal.

Anthony Yeful’s 65th-minute goal proved decisive for El-Kanemi Warriors as they overcame a resolute Plateau United side who have now been drawn into the relegation waters.

The Borno Army are in second place behind Akwa United while the Peace Boys have slipped to 11th place on the log.


Abia Warriors 1- 0 Yobe Desert Stars

Abia Warriors finally had something to cheer about at the Umuahia Township Stadium on Sunday after they pipped hard fighting Yobe Desert Stars 1-0 in a top-flight matchday 15 tie.

Before the victory over the Damaturu side, Abia Warriors have played five matches with just a solitary win to their name.

The last triumph in the league by Henry Mankiwa’s men incidentally came in their 3-1 away success against this same opponent

Ibrahim Olawoyin’s strike nine minutes from stoppage time helped Abia Warriors secure a double over Yobe Desert Stars but both teams are still in the relegation zone.


Gombe United 1-0 Delta Force

Gombe United’s push for survival in the top-flight got a boost over the weekend as they recorded a lone goal victory over Delta Force at the Pantami Stadium on Sunday.

Chukwudi Samuel scored in the 70th minute to guide the Scorpions to a vital home win as they continue to push to stay afloat in the elite division.

Despite the latest victory,  Gombe United are still in the 10th position but just three points away from safety as Delta Force are eighth on the log with 20 points from 15 games.


FC IfeanyiUbah 2-0 Go Round

FC IfeanyiUbah are on track to secure one of the playoff spots in Group B after they recorded a 2-0 win over Go Round on Sunday in Nnewi.

Uche Ihuarulam’s brace put Go Round FC to the sword, as FC Ifeanyiubah narrowed the gap between them and Akwa United as well as El-Kanemi Warriors to just one point.


Heartland 3-1 Nasarawa United

Heartland have halted the good run by Nasarawa United as they thumped the Lafia-based team 3-1 on Sunday in Okigwe.

Nnamdi Egbujor, Chukwudi Nwaodu and Joshua Akhanbue were the scorers for the Naze Millionaires defeated while Sunusi Ibrahim got the only goal for the visitors.
