At least four people were reported dead and 34 injured on Thursday evening as a foot overbridge - near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) railway station - collapsed during peak office hours in Mumbai.
Reactions poured in on social media right after the collapse, some demanding accountability from the concerned authorities, while others condoling the death of the three victims and praying for the safety of those injured.
“Yet Another Tragedy... ”
One more FOB bridge collapses outside CST Mumbai. Praying for the well being of all those injured. How long are we going to suffer this apathy of the system? Tragedy has occurred during the peak time.— Ashoke Pandit (@ashokepandit) March 14, 2019
Another foot over bridge collapse in Mumbai, One again typical blame game will follow. Who is responsible, BMC or railways? Mumbai is the ultimate symbol of " authorities being totally at sea " to deal with basic issues. #Mumbai— bhupendra chaubey (@bhupendrachaube) March 14, 2019
Imagine the plight of commuters. Roads & flyovers are being constructed for vehicles, while humans are dying in Mumbai due to bridge collapse— NeetaKolhatkar (@neetakolhatkar) March 14, 2019
CST foot-over bridge collapse: yet another case of negligence. An inquiry will be set up now (mainly to blame some and save other asses). Then, back to normal, until another bridge collapse. Mumbai, India, bhagwan bharose... it is often said. https://t.co/TPhJrcnZjT— Vijay Singh (@vijaysinghTOI) March 14, 2019
Yet another tragedy born out of civic negligence in Mumbai. This bridge is RIGHT OUTSIDE the headquarters of the BMC and the Railways. https://t.co/FJoQyUKzbw— Kunal Purohit (@kunalpurohit) March 14, 2019
Literally use this bridge everyday. It's so scary how at anytime this bridge could've collapsed like that. Life is literally of no value in a country that's so densely populated. #MumbaiBridgeCollapse https://t.co/gvO5H0f80V— Siddhi Kamble (@Siddhi_Kamble) March 14, 2019
Bridge collapsed near CST, lack of repair lead to causality of 2(upto now). Total failure of BMC which is being ruled by BJP and Shivsena for decades. #MumbaiBridgeCollapse— Aatir Arshad (@AatirArshad) March 14, 2019
The collapse of the bridge outside CSMT station is a reminder of how bad the infrastructure status of the city is. this bridge is not even 100 meters away from BMC and we have a situation like this over here. Human life has no value, no meaning it seems.— Singh Varun (@singhvarun) March 14, 2019
