Noted Telugu Comedian Gundu Hanumantha Rao Passes Away At 61 After Suffering From Kidney Related Ailments
Veteran comedian Gundu Hanumantha Rao passed away in the wee hours of Monday in his Hyderabad residence. He was 61 and has been suffering from kidney related ailments since long. His health deteriorated suddenly last night, causing panic in the family, who then rushed him to the hospital. But it was too late by then and the doctors declared him brought dead. He is survived by a son.
Born in Vijayawada on October 10, 1956, Gundu Hanumantharao made his acting debut at the age of 18 with a play Ravana Brahma. It was a stage play and there was no looking back. He went on to act in over hundred plays, before making the transition from stage to screen. A name and face to reckon with in Telugu cinema, Humantha Rao worked in over 400 films some of the most memorable ones being Mayalodu, Yamaleela, Aata, Pellaniki Premalekha Priyuraliki Subhalekha, Rajendradu Gajendradu, Nenu Seetamahalakshmi, Kedi No 1, Apparao Driving School, Kalyanam, Original. His first big break was in the 1987 film Aha Naa Pellanta, where he played the groom’s father.
Later, his role in TV comedy series Amrutham was one of the most appreciated and notable and he also won three Nandi Awards for the same. The veteran’s last rites will be performed today evening, at Erragadda Burial Ground in Hyderabad.
