NOT RANVEER, This Actor Was The FIRST CHOICE To Play Padmavati’s Khilji

While everyone congratulated Ranveer Singh for completing a hat-trick with Sanjay Leela Bhansali in Padmavati, little did everyone know that it wouldn’t have been possible had it not been for a certain gentleman. has learnt that Ranveer Singh was not the first choice to play the role of Khilji in the controversial movie.

Ajay Devgn Was The First Choice For The Role Of Alauddin Khilji In Padmavati

The director had taken the role to an actor he has worked with earlier in his career, in a hugely successful film. Believe it or not, Ajay Devgn was approached to play Alauddin Khilji in the Deepika-Ranveer-Shahid starrer. Ajay and SLB have last worked together in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999).

Bhansali who is known to be very fond of Ajay Devgn, approached the actor to play the antagonist Alauddin Khilji In Padmavati. has learnt that the actor-director duo even had two meetings to discuss the role.

But, ultimately Ajay excused himself from being part of the historical saga. Reason? Padmavati’s long shoot schedule. Ajay was not keen on investing one full year in the film.

Ranveer Singh came on board for the part. Ranveer has earlier worked with Bhansali in Bajirao Mastani (2015) and Ram-Leela (2013).

Ranveer’s lady love, Deepika plays the beautiful Mallika-e-Chittor Rani Padmini and Ranveer plays the barbaric invader Alauddin Khilji who is obsessed with her, so much so, that he sets out to capture her. It is Shahid Kapoor who plays Maharawal Ratan Singh, Deepika's husband in the film.
