North Korea Test-Fires 'Unidentified Projectile' Amid Growing Hostilities With South, Pushes Region on War Alert

Team Latestly

Seoul, November 28: The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) or North Korea sent another round of shockwaves in the South China Sea region by firing an "unidentified projectile". The test was carried out in the wee hours of Thursday, the South Korean media reported citing the claims of the South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff. US Envoy Says Time Running Short for North Korea Deal.

The details related to the exact location of the projectile launch could not be confirmed by the time preliminary reports had emerged. This is the first-test carried out by the DPRK since mid-October, when it had launched the Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS).

The projectile testing is expected to further push the region to the brink of war. Tensions have been escalating between North and South Koreas over the past several months -- ever since the dialogue process between US President Donald Trump and North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un failed to yield results.

On Monday, the Korean People's Army (KRA) of the North carried out major drills at the maritime border with the South. During the military training exercise, Kim Jong Un was reportedly present and directed his forces to prepare for "real war-like scenarios".

Seoul had marked its dissent against military drills at its maritime border, calling it a violation of the military agreement inked between the two nations. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also condemned the "aggressive" steps taken by Pyongyang.
