No proper arrangement in place by BJP govt for returning migrant workers: Akhilesh Yadav

Lucknow, Apr 21 (PTI) Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday said the Uttar Pradesh government has not made proper arrangements for bringing home migrant workers, who are returning amid a massive surge in COVID-19 cases.

'The situation is deteriorating due to the flaws in BJP government's policy and intentions towards migrant workers. There is no system of testing and medicines for the people coming in large numbers,' Yadav said in a statement issued here.

The state government is unable to make proper arrangements to bring the distressed families from Delhi and other metros back to their homes, he alleged.

'The BJP government had claimed that all those who have come to Uttar Pradesh last year will get employment,' the SP chief said referring to the massive exodus of migrant workers, primarily to UP and Bihar, during the nationwide lockdown in 2020.

The state government had promised to create 1.5 crore jobs for the migrant workers but the lie has now come to the fore, he claimed while adding that the BJP has committed a massive fraud by deceiving its people.

The former chief minister said thousands of workers continue to come from Delhi's Anand Vihar bus station, Noida and other states of the country to UP while a large number of them are also coming in by train.

Unlike last year, voluntary organisations have not come forward in large numbers for providing food to the workers on the way and the government is also sitting idle, he said.

The truth is that the BJP government only cares about elections and does not want to save human lives, he alleged adding that the state dispensation did not learn any lesson from the situation that was witnessed last year during the nationwide lockdown.

He said the BJP has lost credibility in running the administration and immediate measures for the people and migrant labourers must be taken. PTI ABN HDA HDA
