An image of the Bombay Stock Exchange located at Dalal Street in Mumbai, flashing the message,‘Don’t vote for Modi’ has been doing the rounds on social media.
The picture is accompanied by the caption, “Mumbai ke share bazaar ne bhi ab likh diya. Don’t vote for Modi. Zoom karo aur dekho”, which loosely translates to, “Even the Mumbai share market has now written, ‘Don’t vote for Modi’. Zoom in and see for yourself”.
The Quint found out that the same narrative has also made its way to Facebook and Twitter, where the picture has gone viral .
A viral post with the same caption shared by a Facebook page, Deen aur Duniya, has more than 5,300 shares and more than 1,300 reactions at the time this article was published .
TRUE OR FALSE?
The Quint, on conducting a reverse image search, found out that the image has been doctored.
The original image was traced back to the Bombay Stock Exchange’s official website.
Clearly the image has been doctored to push forward a political agenda, especially at a critical time when 2019 Lok Sabha elections are underway, since such images can influence the voters .
