Racing ahead of others who've announced similar projects, director A Priyadarshini has released the first-look poster of Jayalalithaa’s highly anticipated biopic on Wednesday. The poster was released to coincide with Jayalalithaa’s second year death anniversary on December 5.
Actor Nithya Menen looks strikingly similar to the late politician in this poster, dressed exactly to resemble her early days in politics.
Produced by Chennai-based Papertale Pictures, the poster has the line ‘India’s Margaret Thatcher’.
A Priyadarshini, who had previously worked as an associate to director Mysskin, will be making her directorial debut with this biopic. Priyadarshini had made a formal announcement in September this year and the film’s poster was unveiled by director AR Murugadoss.

The poster further stated that a ‘grand inauguration ceremony’ would be organised soon. The director in an interview with The Hindu had shared that actor Nithya Menen would don the role of Jayalalithaa in the film and that the film would officially go on the floors on February 24, 2019, coinciding with Jayalalithaa’s birthday.
Previously, Hyderabad-based production house Vibri Media announced that they would soon produce a biopic on the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister. They had announced that the film would be released to coincide with Jayalalithaa’s birth anniversary, February 24, next year. Vibri Media further said that director AL Vijay of Madrasapattinam fame would helm the project and that it will star lead actors from Bollywood and the south.
In December 2017, Adithya Bharadwaj, producer of Y-star Cine and Television Private Ltd, had announced that a biopic on the late Chief Minister would be directed by veteran director Barathiraja. The film’s title was revealed as Thaai: Puratchi Thalaivi. Since then, rumours of the cast that include names like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Anushka Shetty and Mohanlal have been doing the rounds.
Following the poster release, fans have been expressing their awe on how well the actor resembles the late politician.
