Naveed's escape case cracked, police say jail insiders helped the militants
Within two days of the dramatic escape of a dreaded LeT terrorist Naveed Jhat from a Srinagar hospital the Jammu and Kashmir Police today announced that it cracked the case.
In last 24 hours, special teams of the force carried out several raids in south Kashmir. They were successful in arresting 4 four people involved in the plan.
Two militants Shakeel Ahmad Bhat and Tika Khan were arrested last night from Pulwama along with them two over ground workers (OGW's) Rahil Kachroo and Mohammad Shafi have also put under arrest. The militant Tika Khan actually was part of the attack on that day in SMHS hospital.
As per the police all these people had a direct hand in the escape plan on February 6.
"Our special team developed intelligence and raided many places last night. We managed to get our hand on these people. Out of these Tika khan was part of the act the others provided help", said Munir Khan, ADG Police.
The police investigation reveals that Shakeel Bhat was the mastermind of the escape of 22-year-old Pakistani militant, Tika Khan and Hilal Rather two militants from Pulwama executed the act in Srinagar.
The details also point towards a sinister plan which was hatched four months back. The militant groups earlier tried to make Naveed escape from the court in Pulwama but that couldn't work out. Then they started hatching this hospital plan. What is shocking in the entire case is that help for them came within the central jail.
"Militants Tika khan and Hilal visited Naveed in Central jail many times on one pretext and the other. They even were in touch on phones", said Munir khan.
On that day Hilal rather and Tika Khan were waiting outside the SMHS hospital for Naveed to arrive. They had knowledge about the timing and possibly even knew the number of policemen accompanying the militant. The moment Naveed arrived the two started following him inside the hospital.
In the corridor Hilal quietly handed Naveed a pistol and then both of them fired upon the two police guards. The firing creating panic among the people and the two took advantage of the crowd and escaped. All three first escaped on a motorbike which was outside.
They cross the river jehlum through Abdullah Bridge and then stayed at one place till the evening. Later a car transported Naveed and others to Pulwama. One of the OGW's Shafi from Narbal area on the outskirts of Srinagar city had posed as a patient to provide cover for the militant's escape.
All four were arrested after police, based on intelligence inputs, conducted raids at various places in Pulwama. The fifth man identified as Hilal is still at large. The police say they are hot of the trails of Naveed in south Kashmir now.
The police also confirmed that the militant groups were desperate to make Naveed escape as most of their commanders have been killed in recent encounters in Kashmir.
"We have killed so many of their commanders. The LeT has been desperate to get its people. That is the reason they were trying so hard to get him out", added Munir Khan.
In this entire case the help from insiders of Central jail is been looked into. Mobile phones were being used in the jail. The police said they have recovered few of these mobile phones and all they are now being screening for more information.
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir government has already ordered an enquiry in the Central Jail Srinagar and also put its Superintendent under suspension.
