Taapsee Pannu’s prequel to Baby opened in theatres two weeks ago and has raked in about Rs 32.55 cr in the span of about two weeks. While Taapsee Pannu’s antics and bearing as an intelligence officer have been appreciated by some section of the masses but critics mostly did not have amazing things to say about the movie. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh has tweeted the box office numbers so far and they look pretty average to us. He wrote, “#NaamShabana collects ₹ 5.37 cr in Weekend 2… [Week 2] Fri 1.07 cr, Sat 1.88 cr, Sun 2.42 cr. Total: ₹ 32.55 cr. India biz.” The movie got a pretty good run as there was no big movie releasing in the next week as well.
Interestingly, it garnered about Rs 5.37 crore on last Friday..it is not much but it is still more than what the re-release of Baahubali earned, which is about Rs 2 cr. While the movie manages to break even, it definitely is not a hit. Our critic wrote, “The two halves of the film could have been better blended. While the first half was all about Shabana, the second half was more about the mission. It seemed like the makers were trying to justify the fact that it was still an espionage thriller. And while it was all in good spirit, perhaps the shift in focus from Taapsee to Akshay could have been avoided. For a girl, who could kill when it came to protecting her loved ones, Shabana was a little underestimated in the film’s second half. Also, please tell me again as to why would a girl agree to join an agency without knowing its whereabouts?”
