Muslim clerics demand exemption of all pilgrimage taxes and filing of IT returns ahead of Haj

Muslim clerics have now demanded the removal of taxes for pilgrimages of other religions and Haj including GST. The clerics have also demanded that the condition of filing IT returns should be removed as well. This was decided at the meeting held by several Muslim clerics at the Islamic Centre of India. Five per cent GST is levied on the Haj pilgrimage.

According to the clerics, the majority of the people who pay a visit to Haj are from villages and cannot afford to fulfil this condition to file the GST along with the IT returns.
