What we do find missing in 2017 film The Mummy is the combination of maddening adrenaline rush with the proper dose of comical relief of the original The Mummy franchise.

When the reboot of The Mummy franchise with Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise was announced, none expected it to be the darkest of its kind. We are used to seeing the supernatural element with the good dose of comic relief in previous movies of The Mummy series starring Brendan Fraser. The new trailer 2 of The Mummy shatters the idea of happy-go-lucky mummy hunting as Sofia Boutella’s avatar of The Mummy will knock the living daylights out of the viewers and our protagonist Nick Morton played by Tom Cruise. The Mummy Trailer 2 video is dark, to say the least with Sofia as Egyptian Princess Ahmanet is ready to wreck havoc on the earth by using Tom as her pawn!

The trailer 2 shows Tom Cruise in his Ethan Hunt avatar from the Mission Impossible movies. He is all charged up and does not think twice before putting himself and the team in problems. Yes, the man loves to play with fire, but he has enraged an unlikely opponent – The Mummy. The reboot follows the storyline of Princess Ahmanet who was mummified 2000 years ago after she killed her father for being an invincible entity. In the present times, she is woken up again by Tom Cruise who opened her tomb and unleashed the revenge-seeking Princess in full form.

The new trailer shows Sofia Boutella as the menacing antagonist (she easily beats Arnold Vosloo as Imhotep and Jet Li as The Dragon Emperor in the haunting department).Once resurrected, she is in no mood to spare the world with her immense power. We see her destroying the city of London with ease, and our hero seems too powerless to stop this Mummy by any means. So far, the trailer does not reveal any weakness of the sorceress making The Mummy reboot a hell of an adventurous ride. We are also very curious about Award-winning actor Russell Crowe in the role of Dr Henry Jekyll / Mr Hyde. We see him a lot in the trailer along with Annabelle Wallis who is helping Tom Cruise fight the ‘ultimate evil’.

What we do find missing in 2017 film The Mummy is the combination of maddening adrenaline rush with the proper dose of comical relief of the original The Mummy franchise. If you grew up on the original franchise boasting of three marvellous films, The Mummy, The Mummy Returns and The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor, it might be a little downer seeing the out and out dark and action filled new movie which is completely devoid of any humorous element. The Mummy is the first installment in the Universal Monsters shared universe and will release on June 9, 2016, worldwide.
