Mumbai: Two women tumble into an open manhole in Bhandup area

Two women narrowly avoided drowning when they fell into an uncovered manhole in the Bhandup district on Wednesday as torrential rain drenched Mumbai. On Tuesday, municipal commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal urged staff to take all necessary procedures to protect civilians. Chahal convened a high-level conference with ward officials and representatives from other government institutions. The city leader had ordered that manholes be checked and closely monitored in all 24 wards to prevent any adverse accidents, particularly in places where there is considerable waterlogging. The BMC has also instructed Metro authorities to ensure that there is no waterlogging where barricades have been up for Metro work.
