Mumbai: 4 people, including 2 women, arrested in D-Company plot to murder Gujarat businessman

The plot to murder the businessman was allegedly hatched at the behest of Dawood Ibrahim's brother, Anees.

Mumbai Police's Anti Extortion Cell arrested four people Monday for allegedly planning the murder of a Gujarat-based businessman.

The conspiracy was allegedly hatched at the behest of Anees Ibrahim, brother of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.

Gujarat police had foiled the murder plot on February 25 by arresting the four gunmen sent to carry out the shooting.

According to the police, the plan to eliminate the businessman, who has been identified as Ashfaque Khatri, was well planned. The gang had received Rs 20 lakh for the killing.

One of the four arrested by the Mumbai Police is Rizwana Shaikh, the 42-year-old sister-in-law of Dawood's close aide Munna Jhingada. Jhingada is currently jailed in Bangkok jail over a murder plot to eliminate Dawood's rival gangster Chhota Rajan.

The Mumbai Anti Extortion Cell seized a 7.6 mm pistol from Shaikh along with four rounds of ammunition and five phones that were used to stay in touch with Anees Ibrahim.

"Shaikh and another other accused, Ashwini Ravit, 20, were in touch with (Dawood's) brother. They received instructions (which were passed) on to their middleman Satish Kamble to hire shooters. The fourth arrested accused Vinod Khare had gone to Gujarat to do the recce of the target," an official from the Anti Extortion Cell said.

All the four accused have been handed over to Gujarat Police to find out the motive behind this plan. Till now, police has confirmed that the contract was given by Anees Ibrahim, but are yet to find a motive behind the plot.

Officials believe those arrested were just pawns in plot and are not aware about the reason for the contract killing.
