Mulayam Singh Yadav Says Lord Krishna Worshipped Across India, Lord Ram Revered in North India
Ghaziabad, Nov 20: Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav said on Sunday that Lord Krishna is more popular than Lord Ram as he is worshipped across India, while Lord Ram is revered in North India.
The leader was referring to SP chief Akhikesh Yadav‘s announcement to install a Lord Krishna statue in his native village, Saifai. Mulayam said Ram was his idol and very respected, but everyone from North to South worships Lord Krishna.
“Theek hai, hamare adarsh Ram bhi hain aur uttar Bharat Ram ka bahut aadar hai. Lekin Krishna ko uttar se lekar dakshin tak sab mante hain(It’s true that Lord Rama is our idol and is revered in North India. But Lord Krishna is worshipped across India-from north to south,” TOI quoted him as saying.
Akhilesh Yadav’s announcement of installing a Krishna idol was criticised by political leaders. Mulayam Singh Yadav’s comment also came under attack as the Congress party said that the comment was not expected from a senior leader like Mulayam Singh Yadav.
Akhilesh had announced that he would install a 50-feet tall bronze statue in his native village before 2019 general elections. The statue will depict Lord Krishna in war mode, throwing a chariot wheel. The statue will weigh 60 tonnes and will be funded Saifai Mahotsav Committee.
The Lord Krishna statue is seen as the political answer to BJP’s announcement of the installation of Lord Ram’s statue in Ayodhya. The Uttar Pradesh government had announced that it would install a 100-feet high statue on the banks of River Saryu in Ayodhya.
Lord Krishna is heavily worshiped by Yadavs. In mythology, it is believed that the Yadavs are the descendants of Lord Krishna. By installing a statue, the Samajwadi Party might be attempting to win the OBC support again. It must be noted that the Yadavs form the core votebank of the socialist party.
