Bumrah’s first ball was a back of length delivery which Brathwaite chased but only managed to edge it. The ball looked to be travelling in the gap region between the wicket-keeper and wide-slip cordon when Dhoni leapt to his right and took a one-handed stunner to all but end West Indies’ hopes of mounting any comeback in the game. Brathwaite walked back for just 1 run from 5 deliveries.

Sarfaraz Ahmed had taken a blinder to remove Ross Taylor in the ninth over the New Zealand innings. Pakistan required a victory to stay in the tournament and they were given a perfect start by their bowlers. Meanwhile, India jumped to second in the team standings with the 125-run big victory over West Indies. The men in blue have 11 points from six games and need another victory to secure their place in the semi-finals.

Pakistan are placed sixth with seven points from seven matches and needs to win both of their remaining two league games, while also depending on other results, to have any chances of sneaking into the semis.
