Chasing 269 to keep themselves alive in the competition, West Indies had already lost five wickets for 98 runs when Brathwaite arrived at the crease. Bumrah’s first ball was a back of length delivery which Brathwaite chased but only managed to edge it. The ball looked to be travelling in the gap region between the wicket-keeper and wide-slip cordon when Dhoni leapt to his right and took a one-handed stunner to all but end West Indies’ hopes of mounting any comeback in the game. Brathwaite walked back for just 1 run from 5 deliveries.

Sarfaraz Ahmed had taken a blinder to remove Ross Taylor in the ninth over the New Zealand innings. Pakistan required a victory to stay in the tournament and they were given a perfect start by their bowlers.
