Morni Hills gangrape: Police arrests third accused out of 40 men
Panchkula Police has arrested a person, the third accused, in the Morni Hills gang rape case.
The accused has been identified as Sahib Singh, who is a resident of Raipur Rani area. He was named in the first information report (FIR) on Saturday evening on the basis of the statement given by the prime accused Sunny.
Sahib Singh has been charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 328, 342, 276D and 506.
The accused Sahib Singh was produced in the court on Sunday, which remanded him to a two-day police custody. Singh is the third accused arrested by the police so far. However, the police has got no clues about remaining 37 accused. Police is hoping that the interrogation of Sahib Singh and two others will lead to the identification of other accused in the case.
Meanwhile, the gang rape victim and her husband want to get the case transferred to the Chandigarh Police, as they are not happy the way Panchkula Police was handling the case.
The 22-year-old gang rape victim is still unstable and has said that she will meet senior officers to transfer her case to Chandigarh, where the FIR was initially registered.
MYSTERY SURROUNDS RS 50 NOTE
The gang rape victim has handed over a Rs 50 note to the police on which a mobile number was mentioned with a lipstic.
The victim had told the police that one of the gang rape accused cops had shared his mobile number to her. Sunny had introduced the three cops to the victim who were wearing civil clothes. Two out of the three cops had allegedly raped her.
The victim said that she will identify the cops if an identification parade is conducted.
It is still not clear whether the cops who raped the victim were Haryana Police employees. The number written on the note, according to sources, belongs to a Punjab police cop, who is currently posted at Derabassi police station.
