A heartbreaking photo shows former US President George HW Bush’s dog lying next to his casket, after the death of the 94-year-old on Friday.
The labrador retriever named Sully, joined former President Bush in June. He came from America’s VetDogs, a not for profit organisation that provides canines to veterans, local outlet Fox8 reported.
Former President Bush tweeted a photograph of Sully, former President Bill Clinton and himself on June 25.
“A great joy to welcome home the newest member of our family, “Sully,” a beautiful – and beautifully trained- lab,” he tweeted.
“Could not be more grateful, especially for their commitment to our veterans.”
The heartwarming image of Sully by the casket was tweeted by Jim McGrath, former President Bush’s spokesman, on Sunday night.
“Mission complete,” Mr McGrath wrote about the touching image of Sully by the casket, which was draped in an American flag.
The photograph has been retweeted over 13,000 times.
