Minor scuffle on univ campus before India-Africa unity match

Greater Noida, Apr 5 (PTI) A minor scuffle broke out between a couple of Afghan students at a private university here, less than an hour before the institute hosted a friendly football match of Indian and African youths.

The India-Africa Unity Match was played by two teams at the Knowledge Park ground of Sharda University, with members from both the countries on each side.

The event, organised by the local administration to promote harmony in the wake of recent attacks on some African nationals in the city, went off peacefully.

However, the on-campus tiff, which took place on a street bordering the playground, somewhat marred the atmosphere the match had sought to build.

“A scuffle broke out between two Afghan students. One of them sustained some injury. The situation was brought under control immediately,” a security official said.

Later, another Afghan student entered into a heated exchange with one of the two students, before the matter could be brought fully under control.

The Gautam Budh Nagar administration and police had deployed security staff on the campus in view of the event.

Sharda University has students from many foreign countries with a large number from South Africa.
