Minor girl found dead, cousin injured in UP's Shahjahanpur

Shahjahanpur (UP), Feb 23 (PTI) A five-year-old girl was found dead in an agricultural field and her seven-year-old cousin sister was found injured in a neighbouring village here hours after they left home to go to a tube well to take a bath, police said on Tuesday.

The injured girl is undergoing treatment at the medical college, they said.

The two girls left home on Monday evening to go to a tube well outside their village to take a bath. When they did not return till late evening, their families and villagers started looking for them, Superintendent of Police S Anand said.

Later at night, the body of the five-year-old girl was found in a field outside her village under Kanth police station area. Her cousin was found injured in a neighbouring village, he said.

The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. The injured girl has been admitted to the medical college, Anand said.

About a dozen people have been questioned since Monday night in connection with the incident and further investigation is underway, he said.

District Magistrate Indra Vikram Singh has constituted a team of doctors to ensure proper treatment of the elder girl, he said.

Last week, two minor Dalit girls were found dead and one unconscious in a field in Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh. Later, the police arrested two persons for allegedly poisoning the girls.

One of the accused had developed one-sided love for one of the girls, the police had said. PTI CORR SAB DIV DIV
