Metro Services in Agra, Meerut And Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh by 2024
Kanpur, Jan 18: The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to start metro services in Arga, Meerut, and Kanpur by the year 2024. The total cost of the metro projects in the three cities is estimated to be Rs 43,800 crore, state cabinet minister and also the UP government spokesperson Sidharth Nath Singh said on Wednesday.
“Metro services will be started in Agra, Kanpur and Meerut cities. The entire project will be completed by 2024,” Sidharth Nath Singh said. The decision to start metro services in three cities of Uttar Pradesh, he said, was taken at a cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Singh also said that two Metro corridors in Agra would cost more than Rs 13,000 crore. “The Kanpur project will have 31 stations and it will be 30-km-long costing over Rs. 17,000 crores, while Meerut metro project will be of 33 km costing over Rs. 13,800 crores,” he was quoted as saying by PTI.
The decision to start metro rail services in Meerut, Agra, and Kanpur was announced after UP government gave its approval to set up Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation on the lines of Maharashtra Rail Corporation. According to the reports, the Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation will be restructured to give it the shape of a ‘single special purpose vehicle’.
