Meerut: Doctor among three arrested for patient

25 Mar 2019: Meerut: Doctor among three arrested for patient's gang-rape in ICU

In a shocking incident, a 30-year-old woman has alleged that three men, including a doctor, raped her in the ICU of a private hospital in Meerut.

The victim, who was suffering from a liver ailment, was admitted in the hospital on March 21. The horrendous incident allegedly happened on Sunday after the nurse injected her with sedatives.

Subsequently, the police launched an investigation.

What happened: Woman screamed for help after seeing ward boy on bed

The woman was diagnosed with fatty liver at the nursing home, IE reports. On Saturday, she was sifted to ICU where she was allegedly raped.

As per the FIR, filed by her husband, the woman saw a ward boy lying on her bed when she gained consciousness.

She screamed for help but by the time her husband reached the ICU, the accused had fled.

Action: Officer claims CCTV cameras were switched off

An officer privy to probe said the CCTV cameras were switched off when the rape allegedly happened.

Police have booked Niyazu (20), Ashok Malik (35), Shadab (23) and nurse Lakshmi (50) under relevant sections of IPC, including Section 376 (rape). Among the accused, Shadab is absconding.

The woman, who hails from Baghpat and lives in Meerut with her husband, was sent for medical examination.

Doubts: Police officer says accusations seemed fishy

While police have registered a case and launched an investigation, the details of the accusations didn't convince them.

Kailash Kumar, investigation officer, told TOI, "The case seems to be a bit suspicious as the woman was in the ICU of the hospital where all beds were occupied."

Nevertheless, a team has been formed for probe and evidence is being collected, added Kumar.
