BHOPAL: Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh, who has time and again, been in a spot for his controversial statements, has done it again.
Addressing a party rally in Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh, Digvijaya called fellow Congress general secretary Meenakshi Natrajan ‘100 percent tunch maal’. Roughly translated from Bhojpuri, the remark means ’100 percent sexy woman’.
Apparently Digvijaya was praising Natarajan. He also said that she was very hard working and close to Congress supremos Sonia and Rahul Gandhi. He also said that he knew this because he was a purana johari (meaning an experienced jeweler who understands the value of a gem).
Stung by the report, Digvijaya has threatened to sue the media with defamation for quoting him out of context, saying he had genuinely praised party worker Meenakshi Natarajan.
Meenakshi Natarajan, herself, has finally spoken out, saying that she has not taken offence over the reported remark. Digvijay Singh had used "100% tunch maal" to describe her dedicated service.
Congress spokesperson Renuka Chowdhury, when asked to comment on Digvijaya’s remarks, said that she was unaware of any sexist comment made by him.
Meanwhile, reacting to Digvijaya’s statement that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh gives training to its cadre to make bombs, BJP leader Vinay Katiyar said: “Digvijaya is a demented case, he needs to be sent to mental asylum, if the government cannot, we'll send him and arrange for his treatment.”
