Damascus, June 12 (IANS) Syrian army troops Sunday discovered a mass grave near a security detachment in the violence-hit area of Jisr al-Shughour, eyewitnesses told Xinhua.
The mass grave is believed to contain the remains of 120 police and security officials who were killed by armed groups in the country's northern region.
More than seven decomposed and decapitated bodies have been exhumed from the grave. The bodies bear marks of torture and mutilation, the eyewitnesses said.
Syria's official SANA news agency said army units Sunday entered Jisr al-Shughour and began cleansing the hospitals of rebel groups.
The army entered the area after dismantling explosives planted by gunmen on roads and bridges.
A large number of gunmen were reportedly arrested and machine guns confiscated from them.
