The new-generation Maruti Suzuki Swift will be a much-awaited evolution of one of India's best-selling hatchbacks.

Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch its new Swift in India, ending a long, long wait. Bookings have already opened and so has the waiting list, and the Swift has already been spied a few times. The third generation of the Swift comes with a number of upgrades, both inside and out, bringing the Indian automaker’s popular hatchback into the modern age and giving it the ammo to take on the updated competition. The new-generation Maruti Suzuki Swift uses the new HEARTECT platform, which is meant to be stiffer yet lighter than the outgoing model. Ultimately, the new 2018 Swift should also be more agile on the road, if the new platform does its job. The platform is also designed to be safer than the current Swift’s underpinnings, complying with global safety norms and the new crash regulations coming into India soon. Bookings are open for INR 11,000 at dealerships around India, and deliveries should begin after the launch, but don’t be surprised to see waiting lists of three to four months. While the platform of the Maruti Suzuki Swift is new, the engine options available under the hood remain the same. There is the tried and tested and true K-Series 1.2-litre petrol engine that delivers 82 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm of maximum torque at 4,200 rpm. There is also the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel motor that delivers 74 bhp at 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm. Transmission duties will be taken care of by a five-speed manual gearbox and a five-speed AGS transmission. There will be 12 variants in total, from the Lxi to the Zxi+ in the petrol lineup and Ldi to Zdi+ in the diesel range. The VXi, ZXi, VDi and ZDi models will get the automatic transmission. The design of the new 2018 Maruti Swift will be the same as that of the new Dzire that launched last year. That means more a more premium look, with smooth curves and fewer lines replacing the boxy design of the older Swift. The front grille is all new, with svelte, swept back headlights and LED DRLs for a sporty look. There will also be six colors to choose from including a new Prime Lucent Orange.
