Maoists call for bandh in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli till May 19

The banner put by the Maoists in Gadchiroli district stated that the district bandh has been imposed by the CPI (Maoist) in remembrance of the "deceased martyrs".

In less than a week of the Etapalli incident where road construction vehicles were torched, the Maoists in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district have called for a bandh till May 19.

On Thursday, banners and pamphlets were put up in Jambhiya and Gatta villages of Etapalli taluka at several places. The banners mention the encounter of Ramco alias Kamla Manku Narote (46), who was the Divisional Commander of the Gatta Dalam and one of the most wanted Maoist commanders in Maharashtra, Chattisgarh and Telangana. She was the wife of one of the most wanted Maoist leaders - Bhaskar Hichkani.

The banner called Ramco's killing a fake encounter by the Gadchiroli police and said people need to "salute the martyrs".

The banner stated that the district bandh has been imposed by the CPI (Maoist) in remembrance of the "deceased martyrs".

It also mentioned the rights of tribal to the water, forest and land and appealed the villagers to join the struggle against the government.

According to sources in Gadchiroli police, Maoist cadres had suffered heavy loss after the April 2018 encounters and attacks had stopped to a large scale but Maoist leaders recruited new cadres and regrouped after which they tried dominating the villages in the interior areas of South and North Gadchiroli.
