Manushi Chhillar brought the Miss World crown to India after a gap of 17 long years. She was crowned Miss World 2017 today.

Manushi Chhillar won the Miss World 2017 crown today and brought laurels to India after a long gap of 17 years. The last time India won at the Miss World stage the year was 2000 and Priyanka Copra had won the title. The 20-year-old medical student from Haryana brought laurels to the country by winning the crown sixth time. Manushi Chhillar who is born to doctor parents is also a medical student. Coincidentally the first Indian woman to have been crowned Miss World Reita Faria was also a medical student who went on to start a successful medical practice in Dublin. 1. She is pursuing her medical degree at the Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women in Sonipat

2.Her father Dr. Mitra Basu Chhillar is a scientist at the Defence Research and Development Organisation while her mother  Dr. Neelam Chhillar is an Associate Professor. She is also the department head of neurochemistry at the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences.

3.Manushi Chhillar is a trained Kuchipudi dancer and has trained under Raja and Radha Reddy and Kaushalya Reddy.

4.Manushi Chhillar has also attended the National School of Drama

5.Manushi Chhillar won the Miss Photogenic title at the Miss India competition.

6.At Miss World 2017, Manushi Chhillar won the Beauty with a Purpose competition, she was a co-winner at this. Her Beauty with a Purpose project was Project Shakti. The campaign’s objective is to spread awareness about menstrual hygiene. During the course of the project, she visited around 20 villages and treated around 5,000 women.

7.Manushi Chhillar bagged the crown from outgoing titleholder Stephanie Del Valle. She became the sixth Indian woman to have won the Miss World title and the first since Priyanka Chopra won it in 2000, 17 years ago.

Manushi Chhillar was asked in the question and answer round, “Which profession deserves the highest salary and why?” and without even batting an eyelid the beauty queen answered, “I think a mother is of the highest respect. I don’t think it’s just about cash but love and respect she gives to someone. She is the biggest inspiration in my life.
